Theme: Law and Righteousness: Shades of Freedom and Glory!
The true freedom of a child is not in the removal of laws but in their acceptance and fulfilment with joy; for the former will mean and amount to waywardness, while the latter will mean doing right/righteousness. Therefore, it would be absurd to think ill of the laws, for there would be no righteousness if there were no laws. The danger of the law is in its misconception and misappropriation. In the first reading, St. Paul warns against the letters of the law, what he called the ministry of condemnation. The true glory of the law is in the spirit, which brings us to the ministry of righteousness. The power and relevance of the law find great stronghold only when they lead to righteousness, which is born out of freedom in the spirit of the law and not into slavery of the letters. Therefore, Jesus declares in the gospel the intention of the law and warns against “the scandal of the law.” Child of God, today we have so many confusions among the teachers of the law and the so-called men of God. Even Jesus acknowledged that he has not come to abolish the law but to fulfil it, hence, the meaning of the law finds its glory for us Christians only when we read and understand it in the light and person of Christ. If Jesus could not, then no other person has the power to change and twist the law, for as much as the world is changing, the laws of God are unchangeable just as God can not change. Therefore, we must be careful not to be misled or to mislead others.
