Theme: Losing to Gain: The Mystery of Wealth and Life!
It is contradictory to imagine that gain can accrue from loss in a normal reasoning sequence. Whatever is lost, can not come back, and so, it does not hold water for businesses, industries, savings, even for personal lifestyles, etc. The first reading from the book of Sirach described this sort of loss for gain in almsgiving according to one’s hands and ability, and tithe. However, Jesus in the gospel today further made this shocking remark that upturned the normal principle of loss and gain. To gain, one should invest and not lose, but Jesus, responding to Peter on what would be their reward having lost and sacrificed all to follow him, stated a gain of ten thousand fold on earth and eternal life. Child of God, Jesus himself, has shown us this example to follow by giving up his life on a cross to gain and save us. Let us, therefore, ask God to purge us of all that sink us so that we can rise above peripheral gains to his riches in Christ Jesus.
