Tobith 6:10-11; 7:1bcde, 9-17; 8:4-9a
Mark 12:28-34
Theme: Love the Lord Your God… Love Your Neighbour!
In the first reading today, Tobias, the son of Tobith, goes in search of his love, for whom and with whom he would change the narrative and culture of death; and when he found her, they prayed and committed themselves to God.
In the gospel, upon inquiry from a genuine Scribe, Jesus teaches the summary of the laws and prophets; the surest and shortest way to keep the commandments.
It was St Augustiine who, commenting on the teaching of Christ on love and the commandments, summarised the Christian struggles and said: ” Love God, and do all you want to do.” By implication, anyone who loves God truly and genuinely will keep his commandments and can never desire to do evil. Jesus gives us this simple code of Love of God and Neighbour, not to abolish any law, but to build in us the foundation for the true Christian religion, upon which other laws and teachings can be well directed. Let us pray to God today for the grace to do away with all bitterness and hate and to love him with all our hearts and minds as well as love and care for our neighbours.
Good morning, let love lead!
