Theme: Mandate and Promise: A Mission with Vision!
The readings of today point to a very important event and show us how Jesus deliberately plans for and prepared his church ahead of time. He commands that the message of salvation be brought to the ends of the earth and promises his abiding presence with us in the Holy Spirit, here on earth and in the world to come. The effects of this plan were seen in the first and second readings, where the accounts of the mission and her beginnings were rendered. Again, Jesus gives the sacramental form for baptism as well as the command that the message of salvation should reach the ends of the earth. We are, hence, called into a mission with a vision. Therefore, we pray today that as Christ ascended victoriously without being held by the forces of nature, we may also live above our earthly inclinations and vices so as to be with him at the end of time.
