Morning Spiritual Recipe: OmenukoJesus in “Living the Word”
Acts 4:1—12
John 21:1—14
Theme: The Old and the New Ways…!
It was the book of Proverbs that said: “A way seemeth right for a man, but its end is the way of death.” Every sinner has a future and a past, and so does the righteous. The difference is in the future and the effort not to go back to the old ways. In the readings today, we see two sides of Peter. In the Gospel, Peter went back to his old way of fishing from which Jesus called him, convincing, with his position and as an elder, other Apostles to go fishing with him. However, Jesus did not leave them there he still went back to call Peter back to the original mission. In the first reading, Peter, a new and changed person, was able to heal the cripple and, on account of this, suffered for the sake of the Gospel.
Child of God, do not be dismayed by your past; focus on the future and make mends where necessary. The former and old ways lead to death, but the new way which Jesus has wrought for us is the way of life. To gain life and peace, when you confess and reject a sin, endeavour not to go back to it. Make efforts to stay away from the sins that entangle the soul and the habit. Again, becareful with what you do especially when you have an exalted position in life or as an elder, so that you don’t drag others to sin or be the reason and false conviction for their sin and hardening of heart.
Thanks, and God bless you!
