Morning Spiritual Recipe: OmenukoJesus in “Living the Word”
Friday 12th May, 2023
Acts 15:22–31
John 15:12–17
Theme: Witness of Love for God and Humanity!
The Will of God made manifest in Christ was clearly evident in the first reading today through the letters and decisions of the Apostles to embrace in the one faith with equal and same love Jews and Gentiles, down to the ends of the earth. Jesus in the Gospel repeats this affirmation by practically showing what love is: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends…” The barriers of hate are often introduced by us humans against each other. We create walls of friends and enemies; of worthiness and unworthiness; of black and white; of familiar and strangers, of freeman and slaves, etc. When Jesus summarises the whole commandment and says, “A new commandment I give you,”love one another,” it is deeper than as simple as it appears. Basically, no one can actually claim to love God if he has no love for humanity expressed in strangers and people we meet every day. Jesus destroyed the barriers of hate by his death for humanity, and so, the basic claim of being a Christian begins with an unconditional love for humanity.
We pray today for the virtue to love genuinely as Christ loved us and to give in our best for the good of humanity.
Good morning, and have a splendid weekend.
